Detection system for objects in warehouse management
1) What problem was solved?
Weighing units are currently used for automated reordering in the warehouse. A disadvantage of these weighing units is that only the stock of one product is “tracked”. In addition, the weighing units reduce the maximum product height in a compartment due to their height of 3cm. In the worst case, when weighing units are used for the first time, shelves and bins have to be adjusted or even additional storage space has to be created.
2) What is the solution and what added value does it provide?
The use of a sensor film that can be integrated into existing warehouse technology and provides data on the presence as well as the weight of objects on it is intended to improve warehouse management. The technology used by Flexora GmbH for this purpose is based on thin-film electronics printed on plastic films in a special process.
The goal is to develop an AI that identifies different objects on the sensor film as well as delineates multiple containers on the sensor film and determines their fill weight.
3) How did the KI Lab Heidelberg provide support?
The KI Lab Heidelberg supported BITO in its search for suitable startups. From a large number of proposed startups, BITO decided to cooperate with Flexora.
